Meet Katie from Archer & Bliss Floral

Flowers are more than just décor—they’re a reflection of a couple’s story, style, and the feeling they want to carry throughout their day. In this edition of Behind the Bouquet, we’re chatting with the creative force behind Archer & Bliss Floral, a home-based flower farm and studio dedicated to designing thoughtful, garden-inspired arrangements. From locally grown blooms to one-of-a-kind installations, her approach blends creativity, sustainability, and a genuine love for bringing each couple’s vision to life.

How long have you been working as a wedding florist?

I have worked in the bridal industry for a number of years in gowns, tuxedo rentals, as well as flowers. Overall, I have four years of professional experience as a wedding and special event florist, and I love all aspects of this profession.

What’s your approach to weddings, and how do you tailor designs to each couple?

When I consult a new customer, I make sure to learn about the Bride and Groom, how they met, and what they are really looking forward to on their wedding day. We always encourage customers to share their inspiration pictures to help us understand their style, but we always make designs unique to each customer. At Archer & Bliss Floral, we take pride in incorporating locally grown flowers whenever possible.

What should couples consider when choosing seasonal or local flowers?

There are so many possibilities with locally grown flowers! Depending on the month of your wedding, you have a variety of shapes and colors to choose from for your beautiful designs. We love taking inspiration from pictures and working with our local growers to learn what will be available to make your designs special.

How would you describe your style, and how do you approach customizing it for clients?

Garden-style designs are my favorite – featuring multiple colors, flower varieties, with texture and an organic flare. I am not your average florist and that’s okay with me! Archer & Bliss runs out of our home studio on our flower farm. With a narrow focus on weddings and events, we are able to craft memorable designs for each customer. Do you have a favorite flower? We want to incorporate that in your designs! Do you have a one-of-a-kind idea that you can’t find on Pinterest? If you can dream it, we can design it!

Can you work within specific themes or color palettes?

Absolutely! We want each design to exceed our customer’s expectations. Part of our consultation process, we ask thorough questions to make sure we are selecting the right flowers for your special day.

How do you help couples select flowers based on seasonality and budget?

During consultations with customers, we can determine what flowers are available for your specific event date. Whether those flowers are from the Archer & Bliss farm or sourced from our flower farming friends, we work together to make sure your blooms will be perfect for your designs. Are you working within a budget? Not a problem! We will always select the most cost-effective flowers for you to achieve your special look.

Where do you source your flowers, and are there eco-friendly or local options available?

At Archer & Bliss, we grow a variety of beautiful flowers that can be featured in wedding designs. If we don’t grow a particular variety or color, we have a network of local flower farms from Wausau to Madison to Door County who work with us on a regular basis. Besides requesting locally or domestically grown flowers, other eco-friendly options to consider are going “foam-free”, using dried flowers in arrangements, or using potted plants or flowers as part of your decor. Instead of donating or throwing out vases and containers after your wedding, your florist will certainly take them back and reuse them. We encourage our customers to return vases and containers to stay true to our mission of sustainability.

What should we know that most couples might not think to ask?

If you are interested in using sustainable flowers for your wedding or special event, the most important question to ask your florist is “What is blooming the best for my event date?” Another important factor in getting the most out of your design is creating a floral budget. We want to suggest the most beautiful and cost-effective blooms for your designs.

Are there any trends in floral design that you’re particularly excited about for upcoming weddings?

I am super excited about installations! Hanging installations, floral walls, floral curtains – I could go on and on! I love the challenge of engineering the designs and using my artistic creativity to incorporate your specific flowers and greenery. This summer, I had the opportunity to create a hanging installation around a chandelier for a couple’s backyard wedding. It was magical!

Do you have recommendations for floral preservation or repurposing the flowers after the wedding?

There are several ways brides can preserve their wedding bouquets and flowers. You can preserve with resin, hang-drying, pressing the flowers, or even freeze-drying. If you aren’t comfortable with doing this on your own, I don’t blame you. Before you ship out your flowers to a stranger on Etsy, I suggest doing a Google search for wedding flower preservation in your area. My personal recommendation is Rememberable Resin in Howard, Wisconsin.
