An earthy and romantic wedding highlighted Jake and Abby’s personalities perfectly.

How it started

Jake and Abby first met through one of Abby’s best friends from beauty school. When the proposal came, it was a complete surprise to Abby. The couple took a trip to Milwaukee with Jake’s brother and sister-in-law. The plan was to visit Lakefront Brewery and then attend an event at Fiserv Forum. Walking along the river to the brewery, Jake popped the question while his brother and sister-in-law captured the moment on video. Abby was shocked and very grateful that the moment was captured on camera. Afterwards, the couples went into the brewery where they we greeted with congratulations from several family members, some of which drove two hours to share in the special moment. Yet another complete surprise for Abby. Having their family there to celebrate made the day incredibly special.

The Venue

Abby and Jake chose The Gibson Social Club in Oshkosh for their ceremony and reception. They fell in love with the look of the venue. “We thought the bar was absolutely gorgeous and we loved the staircase.” The couple felt that the venue showed off their style and that their guests would fit perfectly there.

The Ceremony

With a color scheme of moss green, champagne, and blush pink, the wedding had a very earthy feeling. Their ceremony was short and sweet but they had a few touches to make it very personal. The ceremony was officiated by one of their closest friends. Prior to the start of the ceremony, the couple exchanged their vows in private. The couple says this was probably the most memorable part of the day because it was just between the two of them.

Wedding Day Styles

Abby says one of her favorite parts of planning the wedding was the Bridesmaids’ dresses. Purchased from Bella Bridesmaids, Abby had her eye on the dresses and the color scheme for a whole year before even getting engaged. Picking her dress wouldn’t turn out to be quite as easy. She tried on about 20 dresses and ultimately went with one she tried on in the middle of the pack. It was the one that made her start crying when she walked out of the dressing room. Purchased at Tiffani’s Bridal in Appleton, the dress was exactly what she had envisioned for her wedding day. The men’s attire turned out to be an easy choice with the help of  DuBois Formalwear.

The Reception

Following the ceremony, Simply Vintage Photography gathered the wedding party for photos across the street from the venue. While the bridal party took photos, their guests enjoyed the couple’s signature Lavender Lemonade made with vodka or gin. Dinner for the 192 guests was catered by La Sures in Oshkosh. The guests raved about the dinner consisting of chicken, beef tips, potatoes, dressing, corn, coleslaw, and rolls. For dessert, the couple had an extra special treat in-store for attendees: the Fun Factory Sweet Shoppe’s gelato cart. The couple says they received many compliments on all the great flavors.
Following the dinner, it was time to celebrate with a little dancing. Thanks to music from Matt’s DJ Service, the party really got started. Abby and Jake say that one of the hardest things for them to decide on was the music. They wanted the music for the ceremony and their first dances to be really special and meaningful. It took a bit but the couple says that it all worked out perfectly.

Best Investment

The absolute best investment that Abby made in was hiring Tori from Honey Events & Coordination as her day-of coordinator, designer, and content creator. Tori helped the couple to make a timeline for the day and kept everything on track. She also set everything up and took everything down afterwards. Abby says that Tori was able to execute and bring her vision to life. “She’s the sweetest person I’ve ever met. She’s definitely in the right industry, she’s phenomenal at her job.” Abby also says that hiring Tori was “seriously the best money I’ve spent for this wedding!”

Advice from the Bride…

Don’t get too caught up in all the trends and do whatever you think is best to show off the love you share with your partner. Don’t let people convince you to do anything you don’t want to, it’s your day!
