From the moment guests arrived at Katlyn’s parents’ property, it was clear this wedding day would be something special. Surrounded by flowers, family, and thoughtful personal touches, Joshua and Katlyn’s celebration felt intimate and true to who they are as a couple. With a floral-forward design and a soft garden-party aesthetic, their day unfolded beautifully.
HOW THEY MET
Joshua and Katlyn met in college at Northern Illinois University through mutual friends. For over a year, they spent time together as friends (though Joshua admitted he had a crush from the very beginning). Katlyn was hesitant to risk the friendship they had built, but after time and persistence, she decided to give it a chance. From their first date, Katlyn knew he was the one. Joshua was sweet, kind, and a complete gentleman. He quickly became not only the love of her life, but also her best friend.
THE PROPOSAL
Joshua told Katlyn he had to work an extra shift and suggested a picnic in the park afterward. What Katlyn did not know was that Joshua had driven over three hours to pick up her ring, then made the drive back and stopped to ask her dad for his blessing. When he arrived for their picnic, he could hardly wait. He proposed right away, and Katlyn said yes without hesitation.

THE CEREMONY
The ceremony was held on Katlyn’s parents’ property in the middle of a flower field planted specifically for the wedding. Her parents, Willard and Tracy Zook, prepared the space with great care. They mowed paths through the field and built a wooden arch and long flower boxes that Katlyn and her mom filled with dahlias and petunias.
The Stock Peddler designed floral aisle arrangements that lined both sides of the aisle, along with a floral arch that framed the ceremony space. Wooden chairs rented from Ruby Design were paired with white satin sashes tied into bows along the aisle.
The ceremony was officiated by Katlyn’s grandfather, Willard E. Zook Jr., fulfilling a dream she had cherished since childhood. Walking down the aisle with her father while her Pop-Pop stood waiting to officiate made the moment especially meaningful and deeply personal.
Joshua and Katlyn chose to share their vows privately, a decision that became one of Katlyn’s favorite parts of the day. Those quiet moments alone allowed them to fully take in the weight of their commitment and the love they share, creating an intimate experience they will always cherish. Adding to the emotion of the ceremony, their five-year-old son, William Heinlein, served as the ring bearer. Having him by their side was a sweet and joyful reminder of the family they have built together, making the ceremony feel complete and overflowing with love.
CAPTURING THE DAY
Photography was handled by Timeless Touch Photography, with Liz Schroeder behind the lens. Liz has captured many important moments for Katlyn over the years, including senior photos, family portraits, and newborn photos. Her calm presence and attention to detail helped everything flow smoothly, and most portraits were taken on-site to highlight the flower field and floral arch.
One especially memorable moment came when Joshua and Katlyn ran and danced through the flower field together.
Videography was provided by Shana Joseph, who documented the day in a way that preserved each meaningful moment.

THE RECEPTION
The reception took place at The Woodland Supper Club and Banquet Hall. The venue was chosen for its close proximity to the ceremony site and its accommodating staff. Catering and bartending were provided by the venue, with desserts from Monzu Bakery.
Reception decor included a seating chart built by Katlyn’s dad and lettered with the phrase, “I will always pick you.” Flowers cut from the family’s flower field were arranged in glass vases for centerpieces and used throughout the space. Gold-framed table numbers and blue floral napkins added color to the tables. Ceremony aisle arrangements were repurposed for the reception. Rental items were provided by Ruby Design.
Entertainment for the evening was provided by Badgerstate DJ. Joshua and Katlyn shared their first dance to “From the Ground Up” by Dan + Shay.
LOOKING BACK
When reflecting on the day, Katlyn says the moment that stays with her most is walking down the aisle with her dad. Seeing Joshua waiting at the end of the aisle made the moment unforgettable.
Their biggest wedding splurge was the florals, and it was well worth it. The Stock Peddler created the floral arch, aisle arrangements, bouquets, and designs that shaped the overall look of the day. They listened closely to Katlyn’s vision and delivered something even more beautiful than she imagined.
ADVICE FROM THE COUPLE
“Slow down and enjoy the small moments. The planning process moves quickly, and every part of it contributes to the experience.”
