Genna and Ben’s wedding at the Donald and Carol Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor was everything they hoped for — magical, intimate, and joyful, with the natural beauty of Door County as their backdrop. Eighty guests joined the celebration, which blended romantic elegance with a relaxed, personal touch: pizza and wings for dinner, three signature cocktails (including one named after their dog, Willow), and a first look shared privately in a cherry orchard before the ceremony began. From champagne poured during the ceremony to a surprise wedding video from one of their best friends, every detail of the day felt like it belonged to Genna and Ben alone.
HOW THEY MET
Genna and Ben met after college through mutual friends — Ben had been in the same fraternity as Genna’s brothers, so the two knew of each other before they ever really spoke. Their first real conversation happened on a first date at Genna’s Lounge in Madison, a spot with a name that felt almost too perfect. At the time, Ben was living in Minneapolis and had come to Madison for the weekend; he asked Genna out for drinks, and the spark was immediate. He returned the following weekend for a second date, and just two months later, made the decision to move back to Madison to start their life together.
THE PROPOSAL
Ben proposed during a picnic at Door 44 Winery in Door County. Although rain lingered throughout the day, they decided to keep their plans. As the skies cleared, they carried their picnic into the vineyard, where Ben got down on one knee. Surrounded by the vines with rosé in hand, it became a moment they’ll never forget.

THE VISION
Their wedding style was romantic, classic, and relaxed, emphasizing meaningful details over trends. A palette of white and soft blue complemented the beauty of Door County and the Kress Pavilion’s panoramic views, allowing the setting to shine.
Genna designed all of the wedding’s custom signage herself, and worked with Tracy Melger of Art Room Flowers on the florals throughout the day. Her bouquet ended up being her favorite design element of the entire wedding — a detail she said she absolutely loved.
Alex Cole at the Kress Pavilion served as day-of coordinator, and her responsiveness made planning feel seamless from start to finish. The venue itself was the couple’s biggest splurge, and one they say was worth every bit of the investment — a stunning, personal space that meant they didn’t need much additional décor to make the day feel complete.
Their vision for a relaxed, meaningful celebration carried into the rehearsal dinner as well, held at The Augusta Club, a vintage-modern waterfront venue with stunning views of Lake Michigan. The Solarium room brought fun supper club vibes, while guests were free to enjoy lawn games outside or relax by the fire. A food truck kept everyone fed, and an open bar served up classic Wisconsin cocktails all evening. One especially meaningful touch: Ben’s 101-year-old grandma used to visit the club when she was growing up, which made the night feel even more special.

WEDDING DAY LOOKS
Genna’s gown was designed by Jenny Yoo and found at Miss Ruby in Milwaukee. After trying on roughly ten dresses, she landed on the perfect fit—elegant and beautiful, yet comfortable enough to dance the night away in.
I probably tried on ten dresses, but I kept coming back to this one!
Her bridesmaids wore dresses from Birdy Grey.
Ben had a custom suit made at Lucca Men’s Clothing, while his groomsmen rented their suits through The Black Tux.
The couple’s rings came from Soha Diamond Co.
Genna worked with the team at Edge, a boutique salon in Green Bay, for both her trial run and wedding-day hair and makeup.
THE CEREMONY
The couple exchanged vows on the Kress Pavilion balcony overlooking Egg Harbor, keeping décor intentionally simple with white roses lining the aisle and floral pillars framing the ceremony. Guests enjoyed champagne throughout, adding an extra celebratory touch.
One of the ceremony’s most meaningful moments was a unity glass-pouring shared by both families, symbolizing the joining of two families into one.
Genna walked down the aisle to a piano instrumental version of “Ocean Eyes”. Ceremony music was performed by Carbon Road, a band featuring Ben’s uncle, while close friend Edgar Sanchez officiated.
Earlier that day, Genna and Ben shared a private first look and exchanged personal vows in a nearby cherry orchard—one of their favorite memories. Before guests arrived, they also celebrated with both families by opening champagne bottles Genna’s father had saved from the years they were each born.

CAPTURING THE DAY
Hannah of Roost & Harbor Photography photographed the wedding, and Genna and Ben say it was her personality that won them over from the start. Among the couple’s favorite shots: an impromptu dance party and photoshoot in the elevator with friends, the emotional champagne celebration with Genna’s family, and a quiet, relaxed photo of the two of them enjoying pizza and cocktails together on the balcony at the end of the night.
We absolutely loved Hannah’s personality; she just clicked with us! She was fun and comforting throughout the entire process, and her photos perfectly captured the candid, raw moments of our day. We loved her style, and it felt like such a natural fit for us.
In a sweet surprise, one of the couple’s best friends, Mitchell Tanis created and gifted them a wedding video they weren’t expecting — a gesture that added even more heart to an already meaningful day.
THE RECEPTION
The reception, also held at the Kress Pavilion, leaned fully into a relaxed, crowd-pleasing spirit. Guests were treated to pizza and wings for dinner from Pizza Bros Door County, a departure from a traditional plated meal that Genna and Ben say guests couldn’t stop raving about.
The Green Bay Bartender team handled the bar, including three signature cocktails: a Cosmo for Genna (“Hers”), an Old Fashioned for Ben (“His”), and a Spicy Margarita named after the couple’s dog, Willow.
Sweetie Pies, a Door County favorite, provided dessert.
Betsy Thiessen played piano during cocktail hour, and Carbon Road Band performed live throughout the reception. Genna and Ben skipped formal dance lessons and simply winged their first dance, set to Deyaz’s cover of “Home” by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.

Looking Back
Genna and Ben describe their wedding day in three words: magical, intimate, and joyful.
Our biggest advice for couples planning their wedding is to focus on what truly matters to you as a couple. Prioritize
the moments and details that make the day feel personal, joyful, and memorable, whether that’s the venue, the food,
or the music. Don’t sweat the small stuff, communicate openly with your vendors, and remember to take a few quiet
moments just for the two of you. It’s those intimate memories that stick with you forever.
