Fall Grain Loft Wedding

A Sophisticated Rustic Boho Chic Wedding

Michael and Maggie celebrated their wedding on a beautiful, fall October day at The Grain Loft in Algoma, WI. The two met on a dating app, with their first date being a wine night in Michael’s living room in their pajamas. Maggie described it to be the perfect night! The proposal  happened in Door County while on a hike with the most beautiful backdrop. Maggie’s parents came up later that day and they celebrated talking about their exciting future together.

Picking Out a Venue and Decor

Knowing that they also wanted to get married near Door County, the couple found The Grain Loft. It had the perfect aesthetic and the space fit all their needs. In addition to their reception location, there was an outdoor ceremony spot, separate buildings for the bridal party and groomsman to get ready in, as well as breathtaking grounds with ponds and trails to walk through. The staff was incredible, and made a big difference in helping the day run smoothly.

When planning their wedding, they wanted it to be intentional and meaningful. Together as a couple they wrote their whole wedding ceremony, with exception of the blessing. Maggie’s father was their officiant, and put together the blessing for their marriage which made the ceremony that much more meaningful. For their unity ceremony they planted a sapling pine, using dirt from each of their families homes serving as the foundation of their lives together. One day they will then plant that tree in the yard of their forever home.

Memorable Moments

Designing their wedding was very important to Maggie. She incorporated the colors of fawn (taupe), black and white. Clean lines, lanterns with flameless candles, antlers and turkey feathers all pulled together her dream vision. Her favorite design element being the memory shelf that included frames of each of their closest deceased family members that they wished could have been there. Candles were placed next to each framed black and white photo with a sign reading, “This candle is lit in loving memory of those who are not here today, but are forever present in our hearts.”

The couple also incorporated their dogs in various ways. Snickers, who is Maggie’s long time companion, had a cupcake flavor representing her as well as a charm around Maggie’s bouquet with her picture on it. Her and their other dog, Nori, also joined them for a few photos.

Food and Music

For the reception, the guests enjoyed garlic rosemary chicken and boneless country BBQ ribs, from Renard’s Catering, along with the most delicious of sides. Drinks were flowing of Spotted Cow on tap and a house wine from Von Stiehl, a favorite local winery of the bride. Dessert was provided by The Cupcake Couture. The bride and groom had their own cake while the guests enjoyed four different flavors of cupcakes.

Once food was done came their favorite part of the reception…the dancing. Will Nye the DJ Guy provided the fun mix of music and special moments for the reception.  After such a crazy day, Maggie said that  it felt amazing to let loose and have fun. “While I loved my first dance with my new husband and the dance with my father, the look on my mother’s face when I surprised her with a dance was unforgettable. At my parents wedding over 30 years ago, she had a song she wanted to dance to with her mom, my grandma and namesake.” That moment never happened as the DJ never played the song all those years ago. And although her grandma is no longer with them, she knew she wanted to create that special moment for her, playing the song, “Mama He’s Crazy” by the Judds. “We danced and cried and I knew my grandma was there spinning around the dance floor with us!”

Music continuing to play an important part in their day. The bride said her most memorable moment was the last slow song. “It felt like we were the only two people in the world – totally blissfully happy and in love.”

The Details

The floral was provided by Remington’s Flowers & Co. Focusing on boho flowers and dried grasses, nothing disappointed. The arrangements were grand in size and design, incorporating turkey feathers in the brides bouquet and grooms boutonniere that they had harvested themselves the fall before.

Maggie knew which gown was hers from the moment she saw it on Instagram, even ordering it before getting to try it on. Bridesmaids gowns were from Kennedy Blue and the groom and groomsmen were fitted by DuBois Formalwear.

Words of Wisdom

With all the work that goes into planning a wedding, the bride suggests to hire a professional wedding day coordinator. It gives more time to relax and enjoy the day.
