Music down the Aisle: Turning Page by Sleeping at Last | First Dance Song: When I Say I Do by Matthew West
The Barn was the perfect setting for Rylie and Devan’s relaxing and whimsical wedding.
Rylie and Devan attended the same church for several years but it was a cooking class in high school that brought them together and, eventually, got them dating. When Devan proposed, he made sure that all of their closest friends and family were there to share the moment. They all got together for a cookout at Rylie’s parent’s home. Her parents told Rylie they needed to Facetime her brother and his family in Florida. He was serving in the Navy and stationed in Florida, so this wasn’t an unusual request. With the iPad propped up in the living room and everyone gathered around, Rylie’s dad asked for her help adjusting the sound. When she turned back around, Devan was right there to propose. The rest of the day was spent celebrating with food and card games. Rylie says that having all of her family there to share in the moment made it even more special.
Rylie and Devan spent about 8 months planning for their wedding of 175 guests. Working at Victorian Bridal in Waupaca, Rylie had a bit of a leg up on most brides when it came to planning her wedding. She was already familiar with several vendors and had spent plenty of time looking at dresses. She knew she wanted something fairly modest and with long sleeves. Rylie tried on a few dresses in sample sizes that the shop ordered for her but had seen the Kenya gown by Maggie Sottero in photos and kept coming back to it. When she finally got to try it on, she knew that it was perfect.
Rylie stated, I also may be a little bit biased but my bosses, Christine and Bailey, at Victorian Bridal are the most hard working and inspiring ladies ever. They gave me so many ideas for our wedding day and provided so many opportunities for me to have the wedding of my dreams!
Rylie and Devan chose The Barn as the location for their Rehearsal Dinner, Ceremony, and Reception. They wanted their wedding to be a relaxing and fun event for their friends and family. Not only did The Barn provide this, but they also offered almost everything the couple needed for their perfect day. Riley and Devan say that the owner of The Barn, Sydney Brozik deserves a standing ovation. Not only did she take care of all of the couple’s needs at the venue, but they were also able to hire Sydney as their Day of Coordinator. Riley says, “she’s one of the sweetest and most passionate ladies I’ve ever met. She truly wants you to have the best day ever and will do whatever she can to help ensure that happens.”
Rylie had spent a lot of time and asked for a lot of help in getting the flowers just the way she wanted them. The pink, orange, yellow, and green wildflowers were a beautiful choice for a May wedding and really showed up against the neutral colors of the wedding party. With the bride and bridesmaids in ivory satin, the groom in brown, and the groomsmen in tan, the wedding party was the perfect mix of elegance, style, and simplicity.
Just before the ceremony started, Rylie was able to look down at all of their guests from the upstairs part of the barn. She says she just stared in awe at the guests talking and enjoying themselves. Riley says at that moment, “I truly never felt more blessed.”
The couple chose to forgo “first looks” before the ceremony so their first time seeing each other on the big day was as Rylie was walked down the aisle. Rachel Lauren Photography was there to capture the moment. The couple says they loved the pure and raw emotion they shared and that the pictures from that moment still give them goosebumps. Following the ceremony, the couple let nature be their backdrop as they took photos along the road to the venue at sunset.
The couple thrifted coffee mugs to give as wedding gifts to their guests. The thought was for guests to pick a favorite on their way home to have as a keepsake. “But what we didn’t expect and ended up being one of our favorite parts of the day, was that our guests picked their favorite mugs and then used them to drink their coffees!!” Riley also created a crossword puzzle for guests to fill out while they were waiting. She also painted a tree on a canvas and had a variety of paint out for guests to “dip their fingers into and put their fingerprints on the limbs to make the leaves of the tree”
Food and drink were a big part of Rylie and Devan’s special day. The couple chose not to have alcohol at their wedding but wanted to encourage their guests to put their phones down and mingle before the ceremony so they served an orange punch mocktail to their guests. After the ceremony, the guests were invited to snack on charcuterie and refresh with coffee, soda, and various juices.
The reception menu was a big deal for Riley and Devan. The couple always love having breakfast for dinner and the moment they got engaged, they knew that was what they wanted for their reception. The reception dinner consisted of biscuits and gravy, eggs, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, potatoes with broasted chicken, and various fruits all provided by Schuellers Great Expectations in Waupaca. And for dessert: cakepops made by Riley’s Godmother and donuts from a family friend’s bakery. Months later, the couple still has people telling them how much they loved their dinner.
It is easier said than done, but what I always reminded myself was that the only thing that matters at the end of the day was that my husband and I got married. Some things will go wrong, it’s inevitable, but as long as you get to say “I do!” Everything is exactly as it was supposed to happen!
