This past fall Premier Bride gathered a group of talented local wedding vendors and went camping! From the moment we first toured Camp Elsewhere, a rustic yet elegantly curated wedding and event venue in Waupaca, we were obsessed. Having worked with the 88 Events team on past stylized shoots, we knew without a doubt that they would bring their A-game. They did not disappoint! We recently sat down with Kaarin Swan, Creative Director of 88 Events, to reflect back on the shoot and this is what she had to say.
Tell us a little about the theme:
Throughout the planning process, I had always referred to the shoot theme as Heirloom. I wanted all the details to feel collected, vintage, and treasured. The venue for the shoot also has this quality to it so it was a really lovely setting.
Are there things about this theme that are currently on-trend or up-and-coming in the wedding industry?
The concept of repurposing things, thrifting, and incorporating personal touches is very much currently on trend and growing in popularity. It allows for the event to feel more intimate and curated.
How do the florals reflect the theme and / or season?
The florals are a bold mix of traditional classic stems like roses, carnations, and dahlias paired alongside more modern blooms like butterfly ranunculus, scabiosa, and chocolate lace. The color palette is filled with eye-catching hues but still manages to be somewhat demure. We were shooting in fall so I wanted to lean into that but vamp it up to be a richer-looking, less literal take on fall. This eclectic approach to the floral selections and designs I think fits that heirloom theme perfectly by highlighting things that are new and exciting while referencing things that harken to the past.
How and why did you make the floral choices you did for this particular venue?
I approached the venue as a collection of vignettes that I wanted to design within and around. My main goal was to create floral pieces that could show off how an actual couple could incorporate florals into these locations throughout the property.
In what ways do your particular decorative pieces enhance the overall mood and experience of both this shoot and of weddings overall?
The decor items I chose to incorporate all have an eclectic, elegant, timeless feeling to them. For example, the antique silver servers were used as bud vases. The venue itself had many whimsical decor items that played a huge role in the overall look of the shoot. I loved the style and wanted to make sure to showcase it well.
What did you enjoy most about collaborating with the other vendors?
Many of these vendors are ones I’ve worked with in the past so I knew they were truly phenomenal at their respective crafts! The best part about bringing a lovely collection of creatives such as these together on a shoot is the camaraderie and just getting to work alongside someone who is here because they love what they do.
What are the reasons why you believe couples should go for it and take the decorative / special vibe of their wedding to the next level?
I am a firm believer in spending on experiences over things and choosing a venue like Camp Elsewhere and throwing an over-the-top wedding weekend would be an amazing experience for everyone invited. I say take that plunge! Do the gorgeous flowers! Bring in your dream team of professionals! Serve a delicious meal in the decked-out mess hall. Dance the night away with moonlit cocktails around the fire! Let the celebration of you two be everything you want it to be!
