Kaitlyn and Conor met while attending the University of Wisconsin where their apartments were across the hall from each other. Kaitlyn and her friends were leaving for a party when Conor and his friends took the opportunity to introduce themselves. “The rest is history,” Kaitlyn says.
The couple got engaged in Kansas City. “We’d been to the city before and fell in love with it, so Conor planned a second trip back there to propose. He had everything planned down to the last detail, including having a photographer waiting to capture the moment.” After proposing amid the Kansas City skyline, Conor completed the surprise with a photoshoot and dinner. “The best part of all is that Kansas City represents our initials, which made it extra special.”
“We are Wisconsinites at heart, and we knew we wanted to go ‘home’ to get married,” Kaitlyn says. The couple toured eight different venues before touring the Heidel House on Green Lake. It offered space for a waterfront ceremony which topped their search list, and the entire property had been renovated. “It’s truly a hidden gem. The deciding factor for us, though, was Diane Sicorsicor. When we met with her and toured the property, we could tell she would be wonderful to work with”.
“Having our entire weekend in one location was the best decision we made,” Kaitlyn says, adding that their reception at Heidel House “could not have been more perfect.”
The weekend kicked off with a casual pizza buffet rehearsal dinner, followed by a sunset yacht cruise to relax with friends and family before the wedding day. On their wedding morning, Conor played basketball with his groomsmen while Kaitlyn and her bridesmaids got ready.
Kaitlyn and Conor welcomed their guests with pre-ceremony champagne and fruit-infused water on the patio. They put a personal touch on their waterfront ceremony by sharing their own vows. “This was hands down the best part, I (Kaitlyn) couldn’t make it through the first sentence without crying.” A close friend officiated the ceremony and they exchanged rings from Appleton’s Avenue Jewelers.
Guests continued to enjoy the Heidel House patio throughout the evening, playing lawn games during cocktail hour and stepping off the dance floor later in the evening for a moonlit view of Green Lake
Cocktail hour featured BBQ meatballs, chips & queso, veggies & dip and cheese & sausage. Dinner choices were Filet Mignon, Chicken Poulade, or Pasta Primavera. Conor’s favorite cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes were served with four different flavors to choose from, chocolate-chocolate chip, lemon, white cheddar raspberry and confetti. A huge hit was the Chicago hot dog bar for a late-night snack!
Post speeches, the bride and groom’s favorite part of the evening, they loved that their DJ opened the dance floor with “Let’s Get it Started” by The Black Eyed Peas. “It was the perfect party-starter.”
“All the stereotypes about your wedding going by in a flash are completely true, at the end of the day do whatever makes you and your partner happy because the entire day is
