Traci from Howard-Suamico and Joel from Ashwaubenon met one night in August of 2012 at Stadium View Bar & Grill. Traci was killing time waiting for her eyeglass prescription to be updated, so she popped into Stadium View for a drink. Joel was there with two of his friends, but once he and Traci started talking, the rest was soon history! When they were about ready to become engaged, Joel told Traci for months that the proposal would happen outside of Green Bay. “Each time we went out of town, I’d say, ‘Is this it…?’ And Joel would respond with a smile,” Traci laughs. Come New Year’s Eve 2016, she was good and ready for him to pop the question — and he did that night!
The happy couple planned a September wedding with a ceremony at the Green Bay Botanical Gardens – Woodland Garden. It was a mix of traditional religious elements and Traci and Joel’s personalities. “Our pastor had us explain five things we appreciate or love about each other and how we knew the other person was the one. We had two readings, one being scripture and one being a poem. We used traditional vows, as well as wrote our own. This way, our guests stayed engaged, as we kept it lighthearted and honest.”
Then it was time to celebrate at the place where their story began: Stadium View! “John, Amber, and Jodi were an amazing team to work with! They communicated well and built trust with me that everything would be perfect. They made our dream reception come true, even with the crazy amount of people we had attending: 340!”
Traci and Joel placed a lot of importance on keeping their guests happy throughout the day. “It was all about having our guests and wedding party be well-fed and enjoy celebratory drinks!” There were bagels and mimosas for the getting-ready breakfast, sandwiches and chips on the party bus, and appetizers and signature drinks at the pre-cocktail pub party. “At the reception during cocktail hour, catered by Stadium View, we had an open bar and appetizers for our guests. Our dinner was family-style with broasted chicken, beef tips, mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, and buns.” Dessert was a spread of seven flavors of cupcakes, and at 10pm, Joel and Traci treated their guests to pizza as a late-night snack.
Through all the deliciousness and merriment, Traci maintains that the moment that sticks with her the most was the vows. “We have always worked on being honest and having open communication in our relationship, which is what we carried into our vows. Being real. Being authentic. Being supportive of one another. Our vows and the essence of our ceremony embraced all of this.” Choosing to have their reception at Stadium View, a place so authentic to their relationship, further drives home Joel and Traci’s commitment to keeping their wedding day as grounded, real, and true as their entire love story. Cheers to them!
