Dan, originally from Santa Monica, and Sam from Green Bay met through Sam’s brother-in-law. “At our first date, we hit it off right away and instantly realized we had so much in common. The rest is pretty much history!” Dan popped the question at Sunset Point, the pier overlooking the Fox River at Voyageur Park in De Pere. “We took a walk and ended up at the pier where locks cover the cables on the pier,” Sam says. “Dan pointed out a particular lock and asked, ‘What does that one say?’ I looked, and it said, ‘Sam will you marry me?’” Sam spun around to find Dan down on one knee, ring in hand.
The couple planned an elegant, romantic wedding at the Meyer Theatre in Green Bay. “My goal was to make everything look timeless.,” Sam says. “In 50 years, I want someone to look at our wedding pictures and not be able to guess the time period. I tried to keep everything simple to let the venue’s beauty speak for itself.”

Sam loved shopping for her wedding dress: “There were so many memories derived from the time I spent shopping with my family. I will always remember my mom’s reaction when she saw my dress for the first time, and I will cherish that moment forever.” As for Dan, he found his handsome wedding attire at Dubois Formalwear.
Both the ceremony and reception were held at the Meyer Theatre. “The ceremony took place right on stage, which we loved! Our favorite part of the ceremony was reading our vows. We wrote our own vows, and at that moment, it felt as if there wasn’t anyone else in the room. It was truly a moment forever frozen in time, to be that connected to one another and feel as though a dream was coming true before our very eyes.”

The party then moved to Backstage for dinner, drinks, and dancing. Sam and Dan particularly enjoyed the clinking of glasses urging them to kiss — and the speeches. “Looking out at all of the guests, we were overjoyed by the overwhelming amount of love and support from each and every person. These guests, who played a role in shaping who we are today, all came together to celebrate us. We felt so incredibly blessed beyond words.”
Dinner was another highlight of the evening for Dan and Sam. “The food was fantastic, thanks to Backstage!” There were four meal options: Chicken a la Carbonara, Grilled Pork Tenderloin, Vegetable Alfredo, and Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Dinner was served with salad, rolls, and roasted red mashed potatoes. Cake from Bake My Day was served for dessert — a choice between chocolate or vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. For drinks, Sam and Dan offered an open bar for cocktail hour and served Captain’s Walk and red or white wine with dinner.
Dancing followed, featuring a playlist that the bride and groom curated themselves. “Backstage had an excellent built-in sound system that was used for the cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. There was also beautiful up-lighting available in many different colors. It made the venue even more beautiful by providing the perfect mood lighting.”
In ways big and small, Backstage never failed to impress Sam and Dan. “Their exceptional level of service was truly unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before,” Sam says. “Hanna the Catering Manager/Event Coordinator and Nicole the Head Chef were absolutely amazing to work with and went way above and beyond for us. We can easily say the same of the rest of the staff we had the pleasure of working with. They listened to our vision and helped us along the way when we needed ideas or suggestions. Hanna decorated the entire space for us and truly catered to my every need the day of the wedding, in regards to the venue.”

In the end, Sam’s advice to future brides is to not sweat the small stuff. “Even though I went into wedding planning feeling confident that I wouldn’t get wrapped up in the details, I certainly could have stressed less. I wish I’d realized that, no matter what, there wouldn’t be anything that could change the fact that our wedding day would be one of the best days of our lives. We will forever look back on it with the fondest of memories!”

NE Wisconsin Wedding Vendors:
Did you hire a Wedding Consultant~We did not hire a wedding consultant. However, Hanna (Lindsay) Jorgensen, Event Coordinator for the Backstage at the Meyer acted as a wedding consultant in that she helped me choose linens and decorations they offered through their venue. Also, Hanna set up everything in the venue the day before, and day of, the wedding – and I truly mean everything. We did not need to worry about setting up a thing the day of the wedding.
Invitations~Brown County Graphics designed and printed the invitations. Per my request, their talented graphic designer, Sammi Blackman hand drew a custom design for us.
Rehearsal Dinner~Sammy’s Pizza
Ceremony Location~The Meyer Theatre
Reception Location~Backstage
Caterer~Backstage (they make everything onsite and have an in-house chef, Nicole)
Cake Designer/Dessert~Bake My Day was so excellent to work with and very easy going. Seeing the cake for the first time was a moment out of many, where I saw my vision become a reality. The cake was exactly as I had pictured and I was so pleased. I loved Bake My Day’s cake because it truly tasted like what I felt was a classic wedding cake.
Flowers~Petal Pusher. I went to Petal Pusher with a picture of a bouquet that I found on Pinterest and when I saw the bouquet the day of the wedding, the beauty of the bouquet left me in awe and I couldn’t believe how much it looked exactly like the picture. I was truly blown away by Nichole Campbell’s work. Petal Pusher really made my vision come to life and Nichole was so excellent to work with. She was easy to communicate with and helped me in choosing the right flower choices for the bridesmaids’ bouquets based off of what I was looking for and kept it all within my budget.
Music/Entertainment~We did all of our own music for the ceremony and dancing. Dan is releasing an app for iPhone in late September called Wedding Mix that will allow couples to DJ all phases of their wedding. The Meyer Theatre had an unbelievable sound system for the ceremony, as to be expected, and there was a lighting and sound technician who queued all of the music. The Backstage at the Meyer also had an excellent built in sound system that we utilized for the cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. The Backstage also offered beautiful up-lighting that was available in many different colors. It made the venue even more beautiful by providing the perfect mood lighting.
Transportation~N/A – ceremony and reception were at the same location and there wasn’t a need for transportation.
Photographer~Hove Photography LLC (Krista Hove). Krista is absolutely fantastic to work with and is so artistic. She made us feel so comfortable the day of the wedding and was very organized and on top of things. We knew she was very talented but upon receiving our wedding photos, we were blown away with how she was able to capture the beauty of the venue and the emotions from that day. We were absolutely in love with our photos!
