Rachel (born in Missouri, raised in Florida) and Tyler (hailing from Appleton) met through mutual friends. The two were target shooting at Tyler’s cabin when he proposed. “He went to get my target to show me where I hit, then got down on one knee with a target that said ‘Bulls Eye, Will You Marry Me?’ Of course I said yes!”
The ceremony was held at OuterEdge Stage in Appleton. Rachel and Tyler wrote their own vows but didn’t read them into a microphone. “Later, guests were saying they couldn’t hear our vows, and we just smiled. That was the point.”
After the ceremony, the party moved to Appleton’s Radisson Paper Valley Hotel. “We skipped the grand march and cake cutting; we just wanted to to have fun with our guests and bridal party. We also did Kiss for a Cause, and we raised $500 for WisconSibs just by kissing!” Though they didn’t hire a wedding coordinator for the reception, Rachel says Liz at the Radisson helped a lot.
Rachel and Tyler agree that the food was one of the best parts of the reception. “We did action stations — different food all over the room.” There was a salad bar, mac and cheese bar, mashed potato martini bar, a fruit and vegetable station, and a turkey and beef carving station. “It made it way more fun to wander around with our guests.”
For drinks, there was soda, wine, and tap beer all night; the Spotted Cow was a hit with all the out-of-town guests. To feed everyones’ sweet tooth, there was an assortment of cupcakes, brownies, cookies, cheesecakes, and mini pies. “Everyone could try a little of something new, or pick just what they liked.”
Overall, Rachel describes their wedding day as “romantic, fun-filled, and feeling loved.” The moment that sticks with her the most was just looking around the room and watching everyone have so much fun. “Everyone was laughing and dancing and checking out the food. It was so relaxed — exactly what I wanted.”
