Jacob and Lauren met at a bonfire in 2010, where Lauren spotted Jacob, asked a friend about him, and that friend encouraged Jacob to go and talk to her. “It was like first grade all over again!” says Lauren. “As the night went on, I made sure to get his phone number.” Jacob proposed in 2014 after a pizza picnic at 1,000 Islands Nature Center in Kaukauna. During their post-picnic walk, Jacob told Lauren to stand on a bridge while he set up the self-timer for a photo. Lauren didn’t want her glasses on in the picture, so she took them off — “I was blind as a bat!” She kept smiling for the picture, then realized Jacob was down on one knee proposing.

The two planned a wedding with a country-vintage-romantic feel. “We had a lot of burlap, pearls, petal pink colors, and birch wood. We kept it pretty simple with the décor because the venues were already beautiful!” The ceremony was held at White Oak Chapel at Camp Forest in Forest Junction. The chapel there has sides that open up, so couples can have the feel of an outdoor wedding, even if the weather doesn’t cooperate. The moment that sticks with Lauren most was at the ceremony, when the doors opened up, perfectly in time with the music, to reveal the crowd of friends and family there in loving support.

The party then moved to Woodfire Lodge at Triple J Wing and Clay in Brillion, WI. “We chose it because it has a cabin feel. It was so beautiful that we didn’t need to decorate much. There’s a large bar area and big patio overlooking the woods — beautiful picture opportunities. They also took the whole wedding party on a tractor ride to get pictures in the woods, which was so much fun!” What Lauren and Jacob did decorate, they did by hand. Jacob made a birch picture display, strung with twine for hanging pictures with clothespins, and Lauren glued flowers on the birch as a finishing touch. Lauren and her bridesmaids also made their own bouquets.

Woodfire Lodge provided a delicious buffet-style dinner of chicken, potatoes, salad, and veggie stir fry. “There were so many compliments on the chicken!” The Lodge also served hors d’oeuvres before dinner and a late-night snack of pizza. For dessert, Jacob and Lauren went for Jacob’s favorite: cookies! “We ordered about 475 cookies and a small cake from Manderfields — so yummy!”

To capture all the loveliness in pictures, the couple hired Picture This Photography. “Ryan and Alex were amazing, professional, and fun to work with! They kept us on schedule the entire day and were so creative. We have over 900 pictures to last a lifetime, and we were able to view them about a week after the big day.” Lauren says she wishes they’d also hired a videographer: “At first I thought it wasn’t something I wanted, but the day goes so quickly. I wish I could look back and enjoy it again!”
