Katie and Kent

Katie and Kent describe their style in two words: simple and classy. With those two themes in mind they set out to create a wedding that wasn’t bogged down with unnecessary additions or tacky themes. But before they planned their wedding they had to meet and fall in love, which they did thanks to the help of a mutual friend. After dating for seven years Kent knew Katie was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life wife. After a dance recital, Katie being a dance teacher, Kent went onstage with a bouquet of flowers and complimented the dancers on what a fabulous job they did. What followed was him dropping to one knee and asking for Katie’s hand in marriage.

Keeping with the idea of simple and classy the couple chose deep and vibrant colors, specifically those found in a peacock’s feather. With the help of their coordinator, Alliey Kline from Sash and Bow, deep emeralds and blues set the stage for an elegant setting. Taking the advice of their photographer they decided on doing a first-look before the ceremony, a decision Katie is glad they made. “Being able to see each other before the ceremony when we were all by ourselves and to be able to talk made the rest of the day that much more special.” Kent and Katie admit that they had some day-of nerves but being able to see each other pre-ceremony helped ease any anxiety. The pair shared personalized vows with one another, a highlight of the ceremony says Katie, “It means a lot to hear exactly how the other person thinks of you.”

Wanting to keep things fresh, local, and sustainable the couple had both food and drink from the area, specifically beer from Stone Cellar Brewery in Appleton. Everyone danced the night away to the sounds of the Michael Walters Orchestra, keeping the floor full the entire evening. Advice that the couple would give to future nuptials is to start planning early and delegate tasks right from the onset so you don’t get bogged down and frustrated. A great cost-savings tip they offer is for the groomsmen to not rent their outfit but to purchase it, which not only can be cheaper but also means the outfit can be worn again and again. Lastly, Katie suggests that on the day of your wedding to take time to appreciate everything and everyone around you, “Take everything in as it flies by.”
