 Rachelanne and Brent’s Wedding Story

After meeting and falling in love in college Ryan popped the question to Rachelanne at his family’s beloved north-woods cabin. Under the ruse of a scenic boat ride and some fishing Brent distracted Rachelanne to the front of the boat to look at an abnormally large (and entirely fictitious) turtle. While Rachelanne was scanning the water Brent flew into action and upon turning around she found the love of her life down on one knee. Too caught up in the moment to do anything but cry she confesses that she forgot to say yes. Looking back Rachelanne should have known something was afoot, “Later I realized we didn’t bring any fishing poles and the cooler only had a bottle of wine, I should have known!”

The bachelor party had an outdoor-feel as a rented coach bus from Woody’s Wheels took the boys clay-shooting at J&H Game Farm and then around Green Bay. The ladies combined the bridal shower and bachelorette party into one day with the shower taking place at Peace Lutheran Church in Green Bay and then the party at Mojitos in Appleton for dinner and drinks.

Being a marketing specialist and working in event planning Rachelanne knew just how daunting planning for an event the scale of a wedding can be. She attended both the 2013 Wedding Show Summer & Winter Editions in Green Bay to gather ideas and contacts to get the ball rolling. Opting to go in without a wedding planner many of the details were DIY. The rehearsal dinner was held at Brent’s parents’ home and was catered by a family friend with experience in the Green Bay food business. A personal touch that honored the late grandfather of the bride was taking one of his shirts and fashioning them into handkerchiefs that were given to family members before the wedding. “It was like a little piece of him so he could celebrate the day with us,” says Rachelanne. Other projects include hand-made invitations and table favors.

Rachel will be the first to admit that she was nervous going into the wedding, not to be getting married but for the event itself. “Brent is my best friend, I couldn’t imagine being with someone else. I was nervous to forget something, or to fall, or to start crying and not be able to stop.” The couple credits their officiant, Pastor Stuart of Peace Lutheran Church in Green Bay, with being so comfortable in standing up before their family and friends. “It felt like Brent and I were the only people in the room, he made our ceremony feel so personal.”

Rachelanne says that a major benefit of a well-run reception site is peace of mind, “That’s how you measure the success of an event; did you have to lift a finger the day of? Nope! If there was an issue I have yet to hear about it. The staff at Rock Garden was extremely helpful.” Something as simple as having a Rock Garden’s employee directing traffic so guests know exactly where to park shows the extent that a vendor will go to in pleasing a client says Rachelanne.

Food included a traditional family-style meal of chicken and beef tips, a Wisconsin favorite. Instead of spending money on paying for a cake-slicing fee cupcakes were brought in from Sam’s Club and a family friend provided small cakes for the bride (funfetti) and groom (carrot). With the money saved from not paying for cake-slicing small sweets were provided for each table in addition to the cupcakes. Late night eats consisted of pizza, of which fueled dancing all evening long, “I knew this was something we had to do and it was the perfect second-wind treat that kept us going until the very end.” The groom’s mother surprised the couple by hiring a family-friend with professional videography experience. “We received this incredible footage of the reception, every time I watch I have to laugh,” says Rachelanne.

Music was provided from DJ Kurty K who played the perfect mix of country, polka, hip-hop, and oldies. Rachelanne credits success in that their legs were sore from dancing days after the event. Wedding Perfect of Appleton provided lighting and centerpieces that floored the bride and groom, “When we walked in it was truly an awe moment, absolutely incredible.” Photography was handled by Picture This of Appleton. The couple gush over how their photographer, Ryan, was able to capture every moment of the day, “It’s like he knew we would look back at them and even a year later remember exactly how we felt, to be able to elicit that reaction from a simple photograph is amazing.” Ryan also handled the engagement photos, done at the same cabin in northern Wisconsin where Brent asked Rachelanne to marry him.

Looking back on the whole process the only thing the couple would do differently would be to elicit the services of a wedding planner. Citing the numerous small details that you don’t anticipate, having a seasoned professional on your side can be very beneficial. “It’s a long process and the help would have been appreciated,” says the married couple.
Most importantly Brent and Rachelanne stress that what is paramount is the relationship you have with your partner and not to stress out but instead enjoy the event, “At the end of the day you are married to your best friend and that is what truly matters. The flowers, cake, and dresses all make the shots look beautiful but that’s not what makes the picture. The love you have for your partner is going to shine through everything else.”
