Story by Shawn Dobbins
There comes a point in every wedding where the extent of the day takes a physical toll on not only the bride and groom but also those in attendance. All of the dancing, eating, and conversing can suck the energy out of the liveliest individual. During this mid-reception lull guests have two choices: suck it up and stick around or pack it in and go home. A fun way to keep those in attendance ready for another turn on the dance floor is to provide post-reception food.
Think about it: you’ve been up early, driven all over town, most likely missed lunch, ate several hours ago, and now have danced for the better part of the night; so what are you looking for? An evening snack of course! As weddings are transitioning to an all-day affair their hosts are turning towards not only providing a main meal for their guests but also something to snack on later on in the night. Choices can range from the simple to the extravagant depending on your budget, venue, and personality. A tray of pizza and garlic bread will hit the spot when pangs of hunger kick in while small sandwiches can quiet even the loudest of grumbling tummies, and a fully-stocked candy bar will satisfy even the biggest sweet tooth. You can even personalize the food served; small plates from your favorite restaurant or a famous regional dish will turn any conversation about the wedding food from good to great in a few bites.
If you are looking to take your post-reception food to another level then make the food come to you, food truck style. More popular than ever, food trucks are popping up in many areas and can often be rented for private events. A food truck not only allows you to embrace the outdoor locale of your reception site but it also provides an extra touch that will make your wedding truly pop. Many food trucks will work with you to design a menu of their items that can fit into any budget large or small. In addition to the food itself a food truck adds a totally different dimension and attitude to the day that your guests will never forget.
Do you need to have post-reception food? Of course not. As with all aspects of your wedding you can include or exclude whatever you would like but the right post-reception food will leave your guests going home with not only happy thoughts but also a satisfied belly.
